Gov. Scott on WTVT: “Federal Government Must Follow Florida’s Lead in Cutting Taxes…”

TAMPA, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott appeared Tuesday on WTVT (FOX) Tampa Bay to discuss cutting taxes, the recently announced Opportunity Zones, Florida’s commitment to supporting Puerto Rico and term limits for Congress. The following is an excerpt from this interview. You can watch the full interview here.

Governor Scott: “As you know, I care about jobs for each and every family in our state and we’re going to have 100 zones right here in the Tampa area where… there will be tax incentives so companies will grow there…. You want to make sure everybody has the opportunity for a great job and so these Opportunity Zones are going to go into certain areas – 427 in the entire state, 100 here in Tampa – and hopefully spur more economic development…

“Since I got elected, I’ve been focused on tax reductions. We have cut taxes almost 100 times – over $10 billion – and it’s one of the reasons why we now have 1.5 million jobs in the state in the last seven years….

“I think the federal government followed our lead and started understanding if we want more job growth around the country, we need to follow Florida’s leads start cutting more taxes, cutting regulations, streamline the permitting process. I’m glad the federal government did this and we’ve got these opportunity zones, which means we’re going to get more jobs in the state. I want to finish my years as governor making sure we continue to be the leading state for job growth.”
