Gov. Rick Scott Secures Endorsement of Manufacturers Association of Florida
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Today, the Scott for Florida campaign announced that the Manufacturers Association of Florida (MAF) has endorsed Governor Rick Scott’s campaign for U.S. Senate. MAF, which represents Florida’s manufacturing industry with more than 20,000 manufacturers, recognized Governor Scott for his commitment to improving the business climate for manufacturers, a major industry for job creation in Florida. Governor Scott championed and secured the permanent elimination of the sales tax on manufacturing machinery equipment, saving Florida manufacturers more than $73 million each year.
Governor Rick Scott said, “Over the past seven and a half years, we’ve worked hard to permanently repeal the manufacturing sales tax, cut burdensome regulations and make important investments in workforce development so businesses can grow and Floridians can be prepared for new job opportunities. In Florida, we know that keeping more money in the hands of hardworking families and job creators is the best way to ensure long-term economic growth. It is time to bring that way of thinking to Washington and as U.S. Senator, I will fight to require a supermajority vote of Congress to approve any tax or fee increase before it can become law, so job creators like our manufacturers can continue to grow. I was proud to accept the endorsement of MAF today, and I look forward to continuing to work together to cut taxes and support job creators across Florida’s growing manufacturing industry.”
Governor Scott also highlighted MAF’s dedication to strengthening Florida’s workforce through apprenticeship programs such as the Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program. This program creates a pathway to high-paying manufacturing careers for Floridians, students, veterans. Governor Scott has continuously fought to ensure the best workers are available to Florida’s job creators, including investing more than $2 billion in workforce development, challenging technical colleges and centers to better prepare students to meet community workforce needs, and signing legislation that allows students to use apprenticeships toward high school graduation requirements.
Al Stimac, Manufacturers Association of Florida President, said, “Governor Scott’s work to successfully eliminate the sales tax on manufacturing machinery and equipment was a game changer for our industry and a great win for all of Florida. Because of Governor Scott’s efforts, the manufacturing industry is responsible for more than 378,100 jobs across the state, and we are growing more year after year. We also appreciate the Governor’s focus on workforce development, and we are excited to build on this focus through our Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program. MAF is proud to offer our support for Governor Scott because we need leaders like him in Washington that will keep Florida one of most competitive states in the nation for manufacturing companies to invest, expand and succeed. We need more doers in Washington who will actually fight for our industry and the future of Florida. That is Governor Scott, and that is why we are proud to endorse him for Florida’s next U.S. Senator.”
